Q: When, in a democracy, does a political party go from representing to exploiting public anger about austerity?
A: When it is on the Left.
That’s the only explanation I can come up with for Martin Wolf’s statement:
Much trouble lies ahead: Alexis Tsipras of Syriza, the far-left party, has 27 per cent of the vote already. He will be only too happy to exploit rising public anger.
